September 8, 2019  #comet

#1

The sting of the needle and

My skin is on fire

Like a #comet racing towards the sun

Layers of my soul burn brightly and fall away

I can see everything clearly now

The meaning of life and death

I float over the shell of my corpse

I reach for the stars but find

Only the black

Our time together was infinite

Like a #comet streaking into my life, she blinded me

A heavenly body, a brilliant mind

She seduced me and I wanted more

And like a flash, she was gone

I live in the vacuum of what was and will never be again

Longing for her light

September 10, 2019 #uprooted

I sit in the shade of an old banyan

I’m old now but as a child, I knew every limb

It doesn’t belong here my father told me

It’s the only banyan in a hundred miles he said

#Uprooted, ripped from the ground and surrounded by strangers

At my feet, a sapling struggles to find the sun

September 11, 2019 #smoke

I watched the fire and the #smoke rise from the rubble

The sound of the fireman’s tanks beeping that horrible sound

The sights and sounds numbed me

I was a policeman, far away

I can’t describe the helplessness

Never forget

September 13, 2019 #lunar

The nib of his number 2 pencil scratched out two words

#Lunar light

And his imagination ran wild

A young woman taking a midnight stroll on a dirt road

Moonlight removing all the colors around her

Greyscale countryside

Yellow gaslights

A young waits at home

September 14, 2019 #somersault

A #somersault?

Or a simple pike?

The first sign of spring but the autumn of his life

The breeze chilled him

His wife was in the crowd no doubt

Cheering him on

He imagined her delight in seeing his final performance

Was he standing next to her?

From the 27th floor it was hard to tell

#somersault: didn’t see that last line coming! Very good.
